CLASS DESCRIPTIONS 

Finishing Trades Worked Based Learning 

(HS Elective 2 credits. College 4.5 credits)

Students will experience actual finishing trades work in a lab at the main campus along with classroom apprenticeship theory.  This course gives real, hands on experience with finishing trades skills and knowledge in both a commercial construction and a manufacturing worksite environment.  

Skills could include:  

      • Brush, roll and spray painting
      • Glass and architectural aluminum handling and fabrication 
      • Drywall and coating finishing.  

Students will also earn an OSHA 10 credential and additional finishing trades safety training. Training will include virtual learning equipment in spray, blast, welding and equipment operation. 

College Physics 

(HS Requirement 1 Credit. College 2.25 credits)

Students will experience physics applied both in construction and manufacturing worksite-like environment.  This physics course will be aligned to Minnesota State Standards and to college level expectations.  

Students will explore theory in the classroom and then experience and apply theory in the lab area.

All standards will be met at a college level including planning and carrying out scientific projects through the finishing trades by conducting finalizing trades projects and working out solutions. Standards and trades goals will be met. Course will include standards in:  

      • Investigation 
      • Data analysis 
      • Computational thinking 
      • Modeling and solution design 

College Math 

(HS Requirement 1 credit, college 2.25 credits)

Students will experience math applied in a construction and manufacturing worksite like environment.  This math course will be aligned to Minnesota State Standards and to college level expectations.  

Students will explore theory in the classroom and then experience and apply theory in the lab area aligned to the Minnesota State Standards. 

All standards will be met at a college level including planning and carrying out mathematical projects through the finishing trades by conducting finalizing trades projects and working out solutions. Standards and trades goals will be met. Course will include standards in:  

      • Measurement
      • Fractions
      • Geometry
      • Data analysis 
      • Probability 
      • Algebra 

What is PSEO? 

Post Secondary Enrollment Options is a program of the State of Minnesota Department of Education that allows high school students the opportunity to complete their course of study in a variety of different learning environments. The Finishing Trades of the Upper Midwest provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about the different crafts and professions found in our trade.
